A letter addressed to the gentlemen of the British Museum by the author of the dissertation on the Alexandrian Sarcophagus.

Author: Clarke, Edward Daniel
Year: 1807
Publisher: Cambridge; R. Watts, printer to the university.
Category: Website reference service

After Edward Clarke had secured the tomb of Alexander the Great for the British Museum apparently some doubt had arisen as to whether this sarcophagus really ever had contained Alexander's remainings.
Hence Clarke felt obliged to submit further evidence, resulting in this letter, published 2 years after the book had appeared and which is now virtually impossible to find. We only could locate 3 copies: British Library, Trinity College Lower Library at Cambridge and the James Winthrop Library.
