Note:This is the second edition overall and the first Paris edition. The original first edition was published in St. Petersburg in 1819, with a map and 60 hand coloured plates as well. This original first edition is virtually unobtainable and commands very high prices. Another edition with coloured plates was published in Paris in 1828, but with a limited number of plates only. Apparently this 1825 edition was issued in several variants; apart from the edition as described here, there also are copies with the plates not coloured, as well as copies with only two frontispieces and no other plates.
