Modern red morocco over marbled paper covered boards, the spine divided by five raised bands into six compartments with gilt titles in the second compartment, marbled endpapers, folio, half title, title, pp. 96, plates. Original wrappers bound in, preceded and followed by three blank leaves. Bound with 14 fine lithographs which have been printed on heavy paper. These plates are numbered VI up till XIX, however, the plates I up till V are not referenced to in the text so that there are no missing plates. Plate nr. X has been bound in twice, as seems to be usual with this book.

Minimal wear to extremities, some small annotations in pencil and the occasional slightest spot of foxing. A stain on the upper left side of the front wrappers.

Louis Charles Emile Lortet was born in Oullins in 1836 and died in Lyon in 1909. He was a physician, botanist and zoologist and is best known for his scientific work in the Middle-East.

An extremely rare offprint on fish - and reptile life on Lake Tiberias (sea of Galilee) with no auction records either in ABPC or RBH.
